He is doing well under the circumstances, the Foreign Ministry said

The Danish OSCE observer who had been held captive for a month by pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine was released on Thursday night.

The Foreign Ministry has confirmed the release, stating that the man is doing well under the circumstances and that three other OSCE observers have also been released.

“We are both very relieved and pleased that the four OSCE observers, including the Dane, have been released,” the foreign minister, Martin Lidegaard, said in a joint press release with the trade and development minister, Mogens Jensen.

“However, there are still four OSCE observers being held in Ukraine and they must be released immediately.”

Unacceptable
The ministers argued that it was unacceptable that the OSCE observer mission in Ukraine is unable to do its work in peace.

The Dane was among the four observers seized on Monday May 26 in the border region between Donetsk and Lugansk.
