To mark and celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, That Theatre Company are breathing new life into his words and bringing laughter to your grey and cold winter evenings with this dramatic comedy about a lovesick barman and his broken heart.

Due to public demand, this poetic and hands-on performance is being presented in theatres for the second time. The stage show is the continuation of an experiment of the director Barry McKenna, which is to strip down the set and eliminate all unnecessary props and refined costumes, leaving the actors with only the words and situations of Shakespeare.

Particularly in this piece, McKenna has taken the minimalism and life-likeness one step further by breaking down the fourth wall and placing part of the audience on stage as part of the set.

The action takes place in a pub, where two friends, Derek and Jon (Ian Burns and Andrew Jeffers), are watching a football match between Denmark and England. It is not until the power shuts off that they notice a sad figure behind the bar who needs help sorting out his love life.

Will he be able to find help in the words of Shakespeare and find a happy ending? There is just one way to find out! Take your friends and family by the hand, whether they are Shakespeare lovers or newcomers, and get your tickets for this fun and dramatic play.

Falstaff
Feb 13-Mar 20; Opera House, Ekvipagemestervej 10, Cph K; 95-695 kr, kglteater.dk
This humorous three-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi is based on William Shakespeare’s play The Merry Wives of Windsor and takes place in Windsor in the early 1600s.

Falstaff is a vain, narcissistic and boastful knight who is planning to seduce two married women to trick money out of them. Unluckily for him, the women are both clever and sneaky, and they end up making a fool out of him instead.
This light, colourful staging gives the classic opera a twist so it speaks more to the eye and intellect, not to mention our sense of humour.
