Today and yesterday, several towns in Sjælland and Copenhagen host Copenhagen Sprint, a new international cycling race. The race starts in Roskilde and ends in the capital city centre, after passing through nine other municipalities. Both professional cyclists and the public will take part in the activities.
The women’s race will take place Saturday, while the men’s race is Sunday. Both end near the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK). At Østre Anlæg, there will be music, food stalls and activities for all ages. Some of the music acts include The Savage Rose, Svea S, MGP Allstars and Bamsen Børste.
The public can join a free community bike ride on the closed 11-kilometre city route today between 11:00 and 14:00. There will also be a night ride. People can join and leave the route at different points, so it is open to all.
For those who prefer to watch, there will be cheering zones at Sankt Hans Torv and Nørrebros Runddel. These will have big screens, food and small sports activities such as football and dance.
Copenhagen’s mayor, Lars Weiss, says the event is a chance for the city to come together and enjoy cycling. The full program is available on the Copenhagen Sprint festival website.
To make way for the race, many streets and roads in Copenhagen and nearby towns will be closed or have limited traffic during the event. The traffic delays are expected to be extensive and last for both days. So, it’s important to plan your trips carefully.
