In excellent summer weather, the Copenhagen Sprint cycling race was held over the weekend.
Both for the women and the men, it ended, in a, yes, sprint. Dutch Lorena Wiebes won the women’s race, while Belgian Jordi Meeus won the men’s race.
There were thousands of spectators on both days, and the closing of the streets of Copenhagen went largely without a hitch.
“A good foundation has been laid for a really nice tradition for this race in Copenhagen and Roskilde. The most important thing was that Copenhagen welcomed it well. That support helps create a tradition. That support helps make this a fixture on the cycling calendar,” says DR Sport’s cycling expert Brian Nygaard.
From the start in Roskilde through the nine transit municipalities to the finish line in Copenhagen, there was support and joy among the many spectators.
In Copenhagen, the weekend featured a big screen, music and entertainment at the festival in Østre Anlæg at the Statens Museum for Kunst, cheering zones in Nørrebro and a folk bike race and activities on the car-free route through the city.
The national partner circle behind the race was happy afterwards.
“Once again we showed that Copenhagen is a huge cycling city. We love when the star riders sprint through our streets, and around the city there has been lots of life, good atmosphere and excitement,” says Lord Mayor of Copenhagen Lars Weiss.
Copenhagen Sprint will return for the next two years. In 2026, it will be held on June 20 and 21.
