In a press conference this morning, foreign minister Jeppe Kofod announced that Denmark would close down its airspace to Russian aircraft in response to the invasion in Ukraine.
The ban, which also affects privately-owned Russian aircraft, would go into effect as soon as possible pending some judicial details that need to be ironed out.
“Russian aircraft won’t be flying into our airspace,” said Kofod.
“We’ve embarked on a new epoch in history, which will spell the beginning of the end for Putin and his horrible regime.”
Other countries, such as Germany, the UK, Finland, Austria and the Baltics have also taken similar measures.
Kofod said he hoped for an EU-wide airspace ban for Russian aircraft and expects Russia to counter with its own ban.
