The justice minister, Nick Hækkerup, will be in Dubai this week to officially sign an extradition agreement with the UAE.
The deal will see suspected perpetrators who have committed crimes relating to Denmark be extradited and tried in this country.
Among these are two high-profile cases, including the 12.7 billion kroner defrauding of the Danish state from 2012-2015 and the hit-and-run killing of a police officer on Langebro Bridge in 2019.
“We have seen examples of suspected perpetrators hiding abroad and avoiding prosecution and being held accountable for their actions here in Denmark,” said Hækkerup.
“That goes for the share dividend loophole fraud case and the reckless driving that cost the life of a policeman on Langebro in 2019, as the suspect later fled to Dubai. As justice minister, I find this completely unacceptable.”
Hækkerup said that the extradition deal will hopefully lead to the two suspects being tried in Denmark in the future.
