According to the 2022 Environmental Performance Index, Denmark is the world’s most sustainable country.
It is the second year in a row that Denmark has ranked first on the index, which is compiled by US universities Yale and Columbia.
The index analyses a host of sub-parameters within three central themes: Ecosystem Vitality, Health, and Climate Policy.
In one of the sub-parameters, Denmark scored top marks for Climate Policy, for which it ranked first. Check out Denmark’s marks here.
“Denmark tops the 2022 rankings — an achievement rooted in a strong performance across nearly all the issues tracked by the EPI, with notable leadership in efforts to promote a clean energy future and sustainable agriculture,” the 2022 EPI report found.

India in the pits
It was an all-European affair at the top, with the UK, Finland, Malta and Sweden completing the top five, and Luxembourg, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland and Iceland accounting for the rest of the top 10.
Other notables included Germany (13), Australia (17), Norway (20), Japan (25), the US (43), Canada (49), South Korea (63), Mexico (73), Brazil (81), Russia (112), China (160), Nigeria (162) and Indonesia (164).
India was ranked dead last in 180th spot, preceded by Myanmar, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
