The Position
As the Director of R&D Data Privacy & AI Compliance, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our R&D organization.
You will lead a team of highly specialized employees, ensuring that we stay ahead of data protection laws and AI regulations. Your ability to communicate complex matters in a clear and concise way will be key to your success. You will be reporting to the VP of R&D Compliance for Business Ethics & Data Privacy.
Your key responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a strategic focus across R&D to ensure compliance with data protection laws and AI regulations, embedding compliance by design to meet business needs.
- Lead and develop a department of highly specialized employees, prioritizing tasks and fostering development.
- Operationalize global internal and external personal data protection requirements, facilitating increased coordination and collaboration across R&D and towards the Business Ethics Office.
- Provide recommendations and direction on data privacy risks and trends, taking into account the high complexity in regulations and business operations.
- Ensure compliance with Novo Nordisk Quality System and SOPs within the department.
- Actively participate in industry networks and drive internal and industry-related data privacy projects.
Furthermore, the role entails working closely with internal and external stakeholders globally and interacting with senior management in different business functions. This includes collaborating with Novo Nordisk Business Ethics Compliance Office, the Data Ethics & Privacy Advice team, Global Legal, and the entire R&D organization.
Qualifications
To thrive and succeed in this position we would expect you to have:
- A master’s degree in law or commercial law.
- A minimum of 10 years of strategi and hands on experience in data privacy.
- Experience in designing and building compliance governance frameworks and processes.
- Solid people leadership experience will be considered an advantage.
- It will be an advantage if you have hands-on experience working within an R&D setting or have substantial insight into R&D from either a pharmaceutical company, law firm, the public sector, or an NGO including the entire value chain, and broad and in-depth knowledge of data privacy and AI compliance in practice.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a pragmatic mindset, understanding that progress should not be impeded by the pursuit of perfection. Additionally, they should possess the ability to streamline processes and work smarter, prioritizing tasks effectively. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are required, as well as great collaboration skills to work within teams and across different functions, positively contributing to the work environment. A global and proactive mindset is also a must-have for this role, along with being tech-savvy and fluent in English.

In R&D Business Ethics & Data Privacy Compliance, we work with Business & Data Ethics, Data Privacy and AI.
We are responsible for governing and operationalizing internal and external business & data ethics, data privacy, AI requirements and supporting the global R&D organization on how to mitigate compliance risks.
