Councillors should be included in plan to serve mass-produced meals to elderly

Lawmakers on the AllerÃ¸d Town Council could be getting a taste of their own medicine if a proposal by councillor JÃ¸rgen Dich is approved.

After the council approved a plan to serve nursing home residents food prepared by a catering centre in the neighbouring town of HillerÃ¸d, Dich has suggested that councillors be required to eat the same meals after council meetings.

The move to close kitchens at nursing homes and prepare all food in one central location is expected to save 3 million kroner annually.

Dich argued that the same principle could be applied at town hall itself, which serves lunch to permanent employees as well as councillors after meetings.Â”If we can serve this to our elderly, we can serve it to town hall employees,Â” Dich told the newspaper Frediksborg Amts Avis.
