A survey carried out by UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, shows that the majority of Syrian refugees will seek asylum in Western European countries, reports Kristeligt Dagblad.

Germany and Sweden top the list of desired destinations, followed by Denmark.

UNHCR interviewed 1,245 refugees who arrived in different parts of Greece from warn-torn Syria between April and September this year.

Jobs, network and security
Although this was just a small sample of the estimated 263,000 refugees who entered Greece during the period, the UN agency believes it says something about the refugees’ ‘humanitarian profile’.

Some 50 percent of the respondents said they intended to apply for asylum in Germany, 13 percent preferred Sweden and 5 percent were hoping to make it to Denmark.

Job security, more opportunities and an already existing network were the main reasons refugees prefer Western European countries.
