Foreign criminals streaming into Copenhagen

Police use massive amounts of resources processing the cases

Only every fifth person brought before the courts in Copenhagen is Danish, according to figures from the city police. The rest are foreigners.

In 2009, 67.6 percent of the cases brought before the courts in Copenhagen involved foreigners, but that shot up to 77.8 percent last year. In particular, citizens from Romania and Nigeria are being arrested.

“We are spending more and more time on it and we have been forced to set aside resources specifically for foreigners,” Jørgen Skov, a police inspector with Copenhagen City Police, told Metroxpress newspaper.

Mayoral pledge
When a foreigner commits a crime in Denmark, it takes extra work and resources for the police to work their case when compared to a Dane committing the same crime.

Copenhagen mayor Frank Jensen said that he would be working in close tandem with the police on the problem.
