On this day 110 years ago, Ferdinand Salling opened a manufacturing shop on Søndergade in Aarhus.
Eventually renamed Stormagasinet Salling, his son, Herman, would go on to found the supermarket chain Dansk Supermarked – the owner of Netto, Føtex and Bilka – in 1964.
Today Dansk Supermarked operates around 1,400 stores in four countries, runs a number of Danish e-commerce businesses and employs some 47,000 people internationally.
