Copenhagen neighbourhood gets new food market

Nørrebro site aims to be “a meeting place and bridge between cultures”

Copenhagen’s Nørrebro neighbourhood is getting a new food market at Skodagrunden on the corner of Lygten og Frederikssundsvej.

The new market, dubbed Verdenshjørnet – the Corner of the World – will focus on food from the wide varieties of cuisine found in Nørrebro. The food market aims to be a “meeting place and build bridges between the neighbourhood’s many different cultures”.

“The market will help to lift the neighbourhood and strengthen the community,” said Copenhagen’s mayor Frank Jensen. “The initiative is part of a long-term effort to strengthen the Nørrebro district.”

Concept spreading
Verdenshjørnet is also planned as a way to integrate and find work for local citizens who will be trained to prepare food on one of the location’s on-site food trucks.

“Food courts have proven to be a good contribution to urban life in the city and on Papirøen,” said Copenhagen’s deputy mayor for technical and environmental issues, Morten Kabell.

“I am pleased that the trend is now spreading to other districts, and I am sure it will have a positive impact on urban life in Nørrebro.”

Everyone welcome
Market manager Kristoffer Darving said that he looked forward to welcoming the people of Copenhagen to “enjoy delicious and affordable street food from the diversity of people and cultures who live in Nørrebro”.

Verdenshjørnet is open every day from noon until evening and will include ten permanent stalls and food concepts.
