Frank Jensen, the mayor of Copenhagen, has told DR Nyheder that the bomb threat that caused Copenhagen City Hall to be evacuated and Rådhuspladsen to be cordoned off earlier today was made by a 17-year-old boy on the child advice hotline Bornetelefonen.dk.
Police have declined to confirm or deny this.
Politiken reported just after 2 pm that Copenhagen City Hall had been evacuated and that there was a huge police presence investigating a bomb threat.
Politiken's photographer on the scene at Rådhuspladsen described areas of the square being cordoned off and officers with bomb suits and sniffer dogs arriving.
Confusion
Anna Mee Allerslev, the deputy mayor for integration and employment described scenes of confusion following the alert. “We rushed out and there were lots of police already there,” she said to Politiken.
“We hadn’t been told anything about it, but we thought that it was an annual exercise we had forgotten about.”
