Danish ships are now on track after delays due to poor weather conditions and infrastructure

Over half of the Syrian chemical weapons have now been removed by the Danish-led fleet, the Navy reported in a press release on March 22.

The removal of the 1,000 tonnes, which was initiated last year by the UN, had been delayed by poor weather conditions, road closures and moving battlelines. Only three shipments had left the country up until February 10.

More speed since February
However, in the last month, the Danish-Norwegian-British fleet in co-operation with Russian and Chinese ships has transported eight shipment out of Syria.

The Navy is optimistic that it can get the remainder out of the Middle Eastern country by the middle of 2014, which is the UN deadline for the removal and destruction of the chemical weapons.
