Italian man stabbed outside Christiania

Police apprehend suspected assailant in the Metro and the victim’s life is not in danger

A man was arrested following the stabbing of a 20-year-old Italian man outside the entrance of Christiania on Bådsmandsstræde at 5:30pm yesterday.

According to Ekstra Bladet, the suspected perpetrator was quickly apprehended by a nearby patrol after a description of the man was circulated.

“A clever patrol decided to check the Metro station in Christianshavn where he was found,” police spokesperson Robert Jensen told Ekstra Bladet. The Metro was temporarily unable to stop at Christianshavn while the arrest was being made.

The man will be presented in court today while the police their conduct a technical analysis of the man's clothes and possessions.

Ekstra Bladet reports the Italian man was stabbed on the left side of the chest but is not in a critical condition.

“None of his vital organs were hit,” Jensen told Ekstra Bladet. “He has suffered some internal bleeding which is being monitored but his life is not in danger.”

There is so far no known motive for the attack. The Copenhagen Post was on the scene at 9pm but could find no witnesses or further information about the assailant or victim.
