No mailbox, no mail

Mail delivery halted to those not in compliance with mailbox regulations

Nearly 11,000 households nationwide will not receive mail today if their mailboxes are not set up according to Post Danmark's new postal regulations, and their mail will continue to be withheld and returned to sender until a proper box is erected.

Post Danmark says they are being patient with the postal scofflaws.

“It is our job to deliver the mail,” Eva Malene Hartman from Post Danmark’s residential division told ekstrabladet.dk. “As soon as a customer sets up a proper mailbox, we will deliver their mail.”

Hartman said they are not keeping a list or reporting those not in compliance.

Since parliament adopted the new mailbox requirements that went into effect January 1,Post Danmark has sent out four announcements detailing the requirements. A flyer from April 27 warned that no mail would be delivered on May 1 if a mailbox was not set up as required by law.

Hartman said that 99.5 percent of the 800,000 households that needed to make the change have done so and that some 1,500 mailboxes were erected last weekend, leaving about 10,500 Danes waiting in vain for Postman Per.
