Surprise your beau with a night at the hotel

Valentine’s Day might just be the absolute coldest day of the year outside, but not necessarily inside. Celebrating the day of love at Copenhagen Marriott Hotel where the mood is set for romance, you get to spend quality time with your significant other in one of their luxurious and newly renovated rooms, and enjoy the four-course Valentine special with bubbles and wine in the restaurant.

There you are fidgeting with the mascara and considering trying on the skinny jeans you haven’t worn since last spring. After all, this is the one day a year you shouldn’t be thinking about the comfort of stretchy pants. Seconds later, you’re standing in the hall trying to decide whether to throw on a nice pair of heels or your favourite pair of worn-out winter boots, and the argument from before returns, but it seems less convincing the more you think about it. You hear steps outside. Your loved one comes home after a long day at work and expects just another night with spaghetti and meatballs in front of the TV, but you surprise him with a night at Marriott. Here you have already chosen a room with either a city or water view. Obviously, the water front provides a more relaxed atmosphere, but the city side gives you a more edgy view of Copenhagen, which is especially nice at nighttime.

After settling in the room – he checks out the TV channels and you the bathroom supplies – you go downstairs for the four-course meal at the Midtown Grill. Here the friendly waiters will get you started with a glass of bubbly that you enjoy with delicious hors d’oeuvres that consist of different tapenades in small glasses that unfortunately empty quickly. But otherwise the delicately picked ingredients in small portions throughout the courses definitely are enough to both satisfy your eyes and stomach. The courses consist of Oyster ravioli – an aphrodisiac to set the right mood – Gravid lax, Medallion of beef and, last but not least, the dessert is a lovely Chocolate fondant with berries, caramel and orange sorbet.

And then spend the night in one of the hotel’s newly refurbished rooms. Even though the hotel is only ten years old, it recently felt the need to update, which it has managed, still keeping the feeling of homely comfort that businessmen the world over have adopted as a second home. The new style is more Scandinavian than before with clean cut furniture and earth tones, but the American touch is conspicuous. And if you plan on getting lucky, the only protection you’ll find in the room is the Holy Bible, and the book of Mormons, both of which are placed in the drawers on the side of the bed – as they make handy weapons. If you aren’t a fan of bedtime reading, the TV is right where you left it, and full of entertaining programmes or films, some more expensive than others.
The morning after you might as well enjoy the huge breakfast buffet, before you pack up your personal belongings – and maybe a soap or two – and head back out in the cold. Valentine’s Day is over and it’s back to the spaghetti and stretchy pants.
