Females to the fore on X Factor

Judge line-up revealed for 2013 season of popular singing contest show

It’s the show the public loves, loves to hate, or only watches because their children are fans, and today, DR put them all out of their misery, revealing the line-up of judges for the 2013 season of X Factor, and for the first time in its history, the show will have two female judges.

Back for a sixth season, the country’s most popular ever singing contest show (Denmark’s version of Pop Idol was a ratings disaster, lasting just two seasons from 2003-04) drew in 2.398 million viewers for its finale earlier this year, and it will no doubt be confident that its combination of cringeworthy auditions, embarrassing dance moves, and maybe even a talented singer or two will draw a large audience again.

Returning to the team is long-time judge Thomas Blachman, the ‘Simon Cowell of Denmark’, who is back for one last season to dispense his dose of disparaging, uncensored critique to deluded wannabe pop stars. Besides shattering teenage dreams on TV, he is a professional jazz musician, composer and producer with five Danish Music Awards to his name.

Joining him are two X Factor newcomers: Danish-Gambian pop star Ida Corr and Danish music veteran Anne Linnet.

Corr is a singer songwriter with four albums to her name, although her biggest claim to fame came as the female vocalist on the 2007 Fedde Le Grand monster hit ‘Let Me Think About It’.

Linnet, a well-established artist on the Danish music scene since the 1970s, has enjoyed an active career, releasing a number of solo albums and collaborating with a number of other acts, including Tears, Shit & Chanel, and Marquis de Sade.
