Airport strike over, but chaos reigns

Walkout by Copenhagen Airport’s security staff has international departures snarled for the rest of the day

Although security personnel have gone back to work, the lines of passengers trying to make international departures from Copenhagen Airport remain several hundred metres long and are expected to continue to move painfully slowly throughout the rest of the day.

Due to this morning's walkout, flights were cancelled, connections were missed and even after the strike's conclusion, ticket and information counters remain swamped with those trying to rebook missed flights.

The walkout started at 6am this morning and ended at just past 10am.

The airport is urging passengers not already at the airport to just stay home.

"We simply do not have room for any more people,” airport spokesperson Lea Holm told Jyllands-Posten newspaper. “We encourage people to stay home and stay abreast of the situation via our website or with their airline.”

Holm said that security workers were unhappy with their upcoming winter schedules.
