Oktoberfest … in early September

Don your lederhosen and dirndls and raise a glass at this year’s much anticipated Oktoberfest in Copenhagen. The famous beer festival, which takes place in a 2,400-person tent, promises a taste of Munich in the middle of Denmark’s capital, with an authentic  Bavarian atmosphere, live tyrolean music and, of course, beer by the barrel-load. Prost!

Amager Strandpark Parkrun
Looking to add a bit of extra motivation to your Saturday-morning training? Take part in the Amager Strandpark run, a weekly timed 5km run organised by volunteers. Admission is free, but advance registration for a personal barcode is required by the Friday beforehand – and don’t forget to bring the barcode with every time you run. Dogs and prams are welcome!

Circus Benneweis
Circus Benneweis promises family fun and quirky, old-school charm, with a line-up that includes Krachinov the Russian juggler, a troupe of dancing dogs, circus elephants and Don Christian of Austria, who is hailed as one of the best clowns in Europe. Presiding over it all is ringmaster Judy Glostrup, who promises to wow the crowds in various sumptuous circus costumes.

Finders Keepers

Christianshavn School Flea
In the garden at Christianshavn School, find everything from furniture, clothes and toys to homemade jams, waffles, cake and even beer. The event is organised by parents of students at the school, and proceeds will provide funding for student camps and social activities such as field trips, parties and after-school gatherings. In the case of rain, the market will be moved indoors.

Red Lion Closing Down Pub Quiz
The quiz is presented by landlord Martin Popplewell, outstanding in the CTC panto in January as the main villain. Apparently it’s free entry, with reports circulating that the pub is closing down this very Saturday. So head on down to watch them bow out in style.
