He is a 30-year-old R&B singer and songwriter who has just released his fourth studio album, ‘Din for evigt’ (forever yours), which is currently number one in the album charts.
Should I know his tunes?
You may have heard his single ‘Kalder mig hjem’ (calling me home) because it has been playing endlessly on the radio since its release in August. You may also know his other major hits ‘Jeg vil have dig for mig selv’ (I want you for myself) and ‘Mest ondt’ (hurting most), which features pop queen Medina. In fact, think of any Danish R&B song you’ve heard and there is a chance that Burhan G either wrote it or performs backing vocals on it.
So is he popular?
With eleven top ten singles in the Danish charts and numerous nominations, Burhan G continues to get gold and platinum awards thrown at him.
What did he do before that?
Long before his breakthrough on the club scene he actually chanted Grundtvig psalms as a soprano in the royal boys’ choir of Copenhagen, Københavns Drengekor.
What’s special about his new album?
The album is both a declaration of love dedicated to his girlfriend, the semi-famous psychologist Sarah Zobel, and an apology to his mother for not appreciating all she has done for him. Nothing appears to be wrong with that mother-son relationship though, for he manages to mention her almost as often as he poses shirtless for photos. To be clear, both things happen nearly every time he makes an appearance. Some would call it charming; others would call it a cheap shot at winning the hearts of his teenage girl fans.
Does he ever get criticism?
While Burhan G remains one of the best-selling Danish artists ever, music critics have been less enthusiastic about his latest release. The infamous reviewer Thomas Treo of Ekstra Bladet gave the album one star, calling him ‘G for gyselig’ (G for ghastly), writing that he is a hopeless romantic who has made a hopeless album. But then again, Treo never writes a positive review anyway.
