The former culture minister, Uffe Elbæk, has started a new political party called Alternativet – The Alternative.
The party has a focus on sustainability, entrepreneurship and globalisation and was presented to journalists at a press conference this morning.
“Alternativet is a new international party for people who want to work for sustainability, democracy, social justice and the entrepreneurial world,” the party states on its website.
“We have started in Denmark but hope that sister parties and groups will arise around the world within a few years.”
Elbæk stepped down as culture minister last December after accusations of nepotism. He was later cleared by the state auditor. He left his former party, Radikale, in September, and has continued as an independent MP.
According to the Alternativet’s website, the party’s political leadership is composed of Elbæk along with Josephine Fock, the head of the secretariat at the union OAO, and Torsten Gejl, the owner and director of the Open College Network.
The party is far from fully formed, however, and on Facebook Elbæk wrote that the party will complete its party programme and organisational structure ahead of the political festival Folkemødet in June.
