Anti-car deputy mayor would rather ride his bike

Deputy mayor turns down free ride

Copenhagen's new deputy mayor for technical and environmental affairs, Morten Kabell (EL), has turned down the mayoral perk of using a city vehicle.

A well-known champion of cycling and public transportation, Kabell said that a car just didn’t fit into his plans.

“I looked at my calendar and discussed the situation with my colleagues, and I cannot see that a car would be necessary in most cases,” Kabell told the radio station P4 København.

Kabell will primarily use his bike to get around, opting for an administrative vehicle only in exceptional circumstances.

“You will mainly see me on my bike or electric bike, or on public transportation if I am going somewhere that it would not be cool to show up sweaty,” he said.
