Another giraffe named Marius risks same grim fate

As the fallout continues, a second giraffe named Marius will most likely be euthanised in a Danish Zoo
While the world continues to mourns the loss of Marius, the two-year-old giraffe who was killed and fed to the lions in front of an audience at Copenhagen Zoo on Sunday, a second young and healthy giraffe, who is also called Marius, looks likely to suffer the same fate.
The seven-year-old giraffe at Jyllands Park Zoo is expected to fall victim to a breeding programme that secures a healthy giraffe population in the zoos, explained a zoo keeper, Janni Løjtved Poulsen.
"Our Marius is a hybrid: a mix of different giraffe breeds," Poulsen told Politiken newspaper. "We were accepted into the breeding programme for pure-bred giraffes and if we get a female, Marius needs to go. We can't have two males and a female together, that will cause internal fighting."
Since the park expects to add a female giraffe to the population, the future looks grim for poor Marius.

At Jylland Park they haven't decided if they are going to make the autopsy public, as Copenhagen Zoo did with their Marius.
Poulsen added that it's a pure coincidence that the two giraffes have the same name.
