Monitoring employees by GPS is fine, court rules

Decision upheld to approve practice, providing it is in working hours

Companies are allowed to monitor their employees’ whereabouts by installing GPS units in company vehicles, a new ruling decreed yesterday at the Western High Court.

A service consultant had demanded compensation after his employer installed a GPS unit in his service vehicle, but the court ruled that the company’s behaviour was perfectly legal during work hours.

The Western High Court’s decision upheld an earlier ruling by the Copenhagen City Court.
