Top Dance | The Flamenco Nod to Anne Frank

Republique Store Scene, Cph Ø; March 16-29; 100-325kr, republique.dk

This is flamenco icon María Juncal’s self-produced tribute to Anna Frank, the young author of the most famous modern diary, and a moving example of preserving dreams in the face of adversity.

The link may be non-obvious, but flamenco is often used to express emotions such as joy, sadness, hope, love and longing of oppressed populations.

The resulting intensity of the music and dance therefore lends itself to the treatment of a story as dramatic and childishly uninhibited as that of Anne Frank.
