Autocorrect led to Big Brother viewers unintentionally donating money to Zambian single-moms

Fans of the reality TV show Big Brother are more generous than they think.

When excited viewers with fumbling fingers tried to vote for the contestant Nirvana to win the finale on Sunday, they accidentally donated 27,000 kroner to the aid organisation Folkekirkens Nødhjælp, Ekstra Bladet reports.

NIR to MOR
The winner was decided by the viewers who texted their vote to the number 1220, but autocorrect on their smart phones didn't recognise the code for 29-year-old Nirvana, NIR, and changed it to MOR, the Danish word for 'mother'.

According to Folkekirkens Nødhjælp, the blunder led to 180 Big Brother fans unintentionally donating 150 kroner to support single-moms in Zambia.

Keep the money, mommy
SBS Net, the TV station airing Big Brother, said today that it will let the aid organisation keep the donation, but if the voters want, they can contact Folkekirkens Nødhjælp and reclaim their unintended donation.

And no, Nirvana, sadly, didn't win. She couldn't beat 34-year-old David, who became the lucky winner of 500,000 kroner – money he said will go towards paying off his own debt, not that of any single-moms.
