Wandering dune arrives in Copenhagen

One of northern Jutland’s most popular tourist attractions is being exhibited in the capital until Thursday

Every year, tourists from Copenhagen travel to Råbjerg Mile in northern Jutland to see Denmark's largest wandering sand dune, but it's not enough.

To make more city dwellers aware of the strange natural phenomenon of migrating dunes, a big pile of sand have been loaded on a truck and brought all the way to Copenhagen where it has been poured out onto the City Square until Thursday.

Råbjerg Mile live
"We want to show this fantastic phenomenon to the rest of Denmark and we look forward to giving everyone a chance to experience Råbjerg Mile up close and live," Børge Søndergård, the head of tourism in Hjørring, told Jyllands-Posten.

The dunes of Råbjerg Mile travel 15 metres a year, cover 1 square kilometre and contain 4 million cubic metres of sand.
