A group of Indian students recently returned from Denmark as part of a student exchange program with Tornvedskolen in Holbæk Council. The visit will be reciprocated when 12 students and two teachers from the Danish school make the trip to India in October.
The three students from Sornammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, accompanied by their vice-principal, Rebecca Victor, attended classes together with the Danish students and took part in cultural exchange activities. This involved the Danish students being taught Bollywood dance and cricket. The Indian visitors got to meet Søren Kjærsgaard, the mayor of Holbæk Council.
Inspiration
Victor told the Hindu newspaper that she will be introducing elements of the experience to the classroom in India. “Their English classes were activity-based,” she said.
“As an extension of our visit, we plan to introduce Skype sessions for students at least once every two weeks and also make students exchange emails so that these exercises will improve their oral and written communication skills.”
The exchange program started following a visit by two teachers from Tornvedskolen to Sornammal school in October 2013. On Sornammal’s website, the school urges other institutions to set up similar programs.
