Following centuries-old mystic traditions of pilgrimages made to revitalising springs and the lighting of blazing bonfires to ward away any malingering malevolent spirits, today Skt Hans Aften is an enchanting evening of song, dance and celebration.
Danes come together in communal celebration for cosy, en-masse picnicking, a spirited St Hans speech, the ritual burning of a witch on the roaring bonfire and the proud singing of the song “Vi elsker vort land” (We love our country).
