Getting around Denmark in an electric car is going to become a lot easier in the near future thanks to 13 new charging stations currently being erected across the nation.

The charging stations, which will be built by the energy company E.ON Danmark, will be constructed near motorways so that electric car drivers won’t have long to drive when they need a charge.

“The new charging stations along the motorways will dramatically improve conditions for electric cars here at home where, until now, they’ve been forced to leave the motorways to charge,” Magnus Heunicke, the transport minister, said in a press release.

Ready by 2015
The motorway stretch between Copenhagen and Aarhus will have12 of the new charging stations, while the other one will be near the Farø Bridges in the Lolland-Falster region.

The charging stations should be fully operational by the end of 2014 and will be able to service all of the brands of electric cars commonly found in Denmark.

E.ON is also looking into the possibility of setting up charging stations along motorways in south-Jutland and north-Jutland in order to service those areas of the country.
