Copenhagen Jazz Festival: Kira Skov

Kira Skov has one of Denmark’s most powerful voices whether she sings rock or jazz.

She made her breakthrough in front of Danish rock act The Kindred Spirits but has recently established an impressive career as a soloist – in part by her magnificent covers of Billie Holliday on the record Memories of Days Gone By (2011).

Kira’s most recent record, When We Were Gentle (2013), blew away the critics and has been acclaimed “the record of her life”.

Kira has recently been granted a three year work grant by the Danish Art Council.

Following an extremely respected indie rock career, Skov took the jump into jazz in 2011 and was accepted with open arms by large audiences when she released her interpretations of songs associated with the legendary Billie Holiday.

Kira’s new album is a fusion between her rock and roll past and her present, open approach to music – with unmistakable references to her inspiration from jazz.

In February Kira received two of the prestigious “Steppeulv” awards for the album, and in May she received “Carl Prisen” as writer of the year.

Her deeply personal, uncompromising style and powerful stage presence make Kira Skov the perfect closing act and culmination of DIVA DAYS 2014.
