Østjysk Våbenhandel will soon open a new fort-like shop near the motorway in Hedensted in central Jutland that will be the biggest retailer of guns in Europe, DR Nyheder reports.
Like a bank vault
The company, which previously had premises in central Hedensted, will from July 31 be housed in a 5,000 sqm building with an underground shooting range.
The shop will be equipped with bulletproof-glass windows and iron-reinforced walls to prevent robberies, Knud Nielsen, the company’s head of security, explained to DR.
“The security rules are very comprehensive for a shop like this,” he said.
“It’s some of the highest security you can get. Some of the requirements are the same as bank vaults”
Padlocked with steel wires
The shop will sell rifles, shotguns and ammunition. The display weapons will be padlocked with steel wires through the trigger guards that only staff can unlock.
“We have video surveillance with a direct line to the police, and if thieves come while we’re closed, it’s almost like a fort,” Nielsen said.
“Besides, you need both a hunting licence and a gun licence to own a shotgun or a rifle, so it's not like you can just come in and steal one.”
Denmark has stringent gun ownership laws that only allow the issuing of licences to hunters or registered rifleman who fulfil a number of other criteria.
