What has Monty Python ever done for us?

Few comedians get funnier when repeated, but this is the genius of observation so achingly accurate it provides us with templates to apply to our own lives.

Who hasn’t at one point adapted the ‘What have the Romans ever done for us?’ or ‘Four Yorkshiremen’ sketch to pour scorn on pomposity?

When they recently performed London’s O2 in Monty Python Live (mostly) (DR2, Mon 20:00), many said they were old … but they will never be dated.

 K4, Thu 22:00 Twisted

Meanwhile, US drama series Twisted looks promising (66 on Metacritic), as do British sitcom Bad Education (BBC Ent, Thu 22:00) and the docs Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist (DR2, Tue 20:30) and  The Real King’s Speech (DRK, Mon 22:30).

TV2, Sun 20:55 21 Jump Street

Two hoots, two harrowing
Its memory will be tarnished by sequels, but 21 Jump Street is a real hoot – a British expression that would aptly describe Tamara Drewe (SVT1, Sun 21:45) starring Gemma Arterton.

If you want harrowing, try heist-gone-wrong drama Before the Devil knows you’re dead (SVT2, Thu 21:45) starring Philip Seymour Hoffman or the compelling Desert Flower (DR3, Thu 22:20), the true story of a supermodel who brought worldwide attention to female circumcision.

Germany expects more
Expect to see footy fans in the crowd at the German Grand Prix (3+, Sun 12:30) and supporting Martin Kaymer at the British Open and Tony Martin in the Tour de France (TV2 & Eurosport, all week).
