Even if you don't follow Australian TV, you may know that Anja Nissen on Monday night was crowned the Voice Australia winner of 2014.
"This is surreal. I cannot believe that I am the winner of The Voice 2014," she said after winning the show, according to the Daily Mail.
Danish media showed an unexpected interest in a TV show from down under, when it turned out that the beautiful 18-year-old blonde was of Danish heritage, leading the media to rejoice in the dubious claim that a Dane had won an Australian song contest.
Speaks some Danish
She was actually born and raised in Blue Mountains near Sydney, but both of her parents are Danish natives who moved to Australia.
However, Ekstra Bladet reports that she speaks a little Danish and that her sister Pia lives in Copenhagen.
It's not the first time she's impressed Australian viewers. She made the semi-final in Australia's Got Talent, when she was just 12 years old. She has also performed the Danish national anthem for Crown Princess Mary, and on Monday her voice led her to win a 500,000 kroner record deal.
Her celebrity coach Will-i-am said that he wanted to sign Anja to his record label.
