Two Danish films set to go head-to-head at the San Sebastian Film Festival

Susanne Bier – the Danish director best known for films like ‘After the Wedding’, ‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ and the Oscar-winning ‘In a Better World’ – has had her new movie picked in the official selection for the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain this September, where it will make its European premiere.

‘A Second Chance’, starring  ‘Game of Thrones’ star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Bond villain Ulrich Thomsen, will be competing for the prestigious Golden Shell award.

The film follows two detectives who start to lose their grip on justice and their efforts to fix the problems in front of them.

This is not the only time Bier’s films have been selected for the festival. In 2002, ‘Open Hearts’ was shown, and in 2004, ‘Brothers’ won awards for best actor and actress.

Up against fellow Dane
Bier will be up against Bille August, the veteran Danish director best know for 'Pelle the Conqueror', whose film ‘Silent Hearts’ will also be shown as part of the official selection.

‘Silent Hearts’ follows the gathering of three generations of family over a weekend when opportunities to make peace on old conflicts arise.
