Only the Russians spent more time getting ready

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the vainest in Europe of them all? “Russian Women, but Danes come in a close second,” the mirror would have answered, according to a survey by Harris Interactive.

Almost half of Danish women aged 18-40 spend on average more than 45 minutes in front of the mirror getting ready before leaving the house, second only to Russian women, where 57 percent spend more than 45 minutes getting prepared.

“Danish women generally look like they are less vain than the southern Europeans because in the south they often wear tighter clothes, higher heels and more make-up,” Emilia Van Hauen, a cultural sociologist, told MetroXpress newspaper.

“But women in Denmark are actually really into their appearance.”

Clothing at the crux of it
Van Hauen went on to contend that the natural look is a Scandinavian ideal that takes time. Just like having a healthy house, clean hair etc, they involve lengthy grooming rituals.

The survey – which placed British women third on the list ahead of Poland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Turkey and France – also found that ladies spent the biggest proportion of their time getting ready on choosing their clothing.

More than half of the Danish women surveyed said they change clothes more than once before being satisfied with their reflections in the mirror.
