With the new Storstrøm Bridge construction project scheduled to kick off next year, a string of international construction players have already held early technical meetings with the road authorities Vejdirektoratet.
According to Berlingske newspaper, France's Vinci Construction, the world's biggest construction company, with close to 180,000 employees, is among the potential bidders to build the bridge.
Other interested companies of note are Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company (South Korea) – which is building Doha's new port in Qatar – and Acciona Infraestructuras (Spain), which has built the Ting Kau Bridge in Hong Kong and the German Chancellery building in Berlin.
“We are pleased to see the great interest from Danish and foreign companies in the new Storstrøm Bridge project,” Erik Stoklund Larsen, the head of construction for Vejdirektoratet, said in a press release.
“It's a really good start to the process that will eventually lead to Vejdirektoratet submitting the final offer.”

Denmark's third-largest bridge
Among the smaller companies are Gruppo de Eccher (Italy), BAM Civiel (the Netherlands) – the builders of Ajax's football stadium – and Salini Impregilo (Italy), which is currently building the new Metro Ring in Copenhagen. Danish firm MT Højgaard is also in the mix.
The new Storstrøm Bridge will be Denmark's third-largest bridge after Storebælt Bridge and Øresund Bridge and will cost an estimated two billion kroner to build. It will replace the current bridge, which has been deemed unfit to service modern traffic.
The new bridge – which will connect Zealand to Falster – will be four kilometres long and be a combined car/railway bridge that will also have pedestrian and bicycle paths. It is expected to be completed in 2021 and will be just west of the current bridge location site.
