Post Danmark has announced it is opening 150 new post offices across the nation, increasing the overall number to 950.
The new post offices will open before Christmas: one half will be located at OK Plus petrol stations and the other half spread out across shops and supermarkets operated by Coop, Dansk Supermarked and De Samvirkende Købmænd.
The move may come as a surprise to some, given Post Danmark's well-documented financial struggles.
As recently as last week, parent company Post Nord announced it will lay off 600-700 administration employees – mostly in Denmark.

Less letters sent
Danes are sending fewer and fewer letters. In 2014, approximately one billion fewer letters were sent compared to 2000.
Instead, there has been a significant increase in the sending and receiving of parcels involved in online shopping.
"The establishment of a strong distribution-centre network will grant us a competitive edge within the e-commerce market," said Jørgen Fischer, the head of the Danish post offices, in a press release.
"More and more people are ordering parcels directly to post offices and self-service machines."
The decrease in demand is causing the postage of letters to increase. A standard A-letter, for example, will soon cost ten kroner to send.
