Sensors and associated app to ease the lives of city drivers

Copenhagen Municipality has launched a so-called smart parking system, whereby sensors in parking spaces will send data to a smartphone app, letting users know where to look for available spots.

Jes Øksnebjerg, who heads the parking department at Copenhagen Municipality, told Berlingske that the move was prompted by the problems associated with the capital’s parking issues.

“It’s incredibly annoying when you come back to your home and have to search the neighbourhood to find a parking space,” he said.

“Searching traffic is a real drag: it pollutes, it creates congestion and people get angry at wasting their time.”

The system will initially be tested in the area around the City Hall between Vester Voldgade and HC Andersens Boulevard and will be operational by the summer.
