Dane hit with colossal fine for Autobahn excess

Residence in Switzerland proved costly

A Danish woman has received a monster speeding fine in Germany, Flensborg Avis reports. According to German police, the motorist was recorded travelling at 162 kmh on a stretch of the A7 Autobahn where the speed limit is 80 kmh.

The woman is resident in Switzerland and, since there is no agreement about the enforcement of speeding fines between Germany and Switzerland, she had to hand over 1,230 Euros (more than 9,000 kroner) in cash as a deposit.

The police escorted her to a cash machine and she was made to pay on the spot, before being allowed to drive away.
