Crown Prince Couple team up with government to promote Greenland in Japan

Tokyo visit scheduled for March 26-28

The Crown Prince Couple are teaming up with a joint Danish-Greenlandic delegation to promote Greenland on a visit to Tokyo from March 26-28.

Frederik and Mary will be accompanied by the Danish food and agriculture minister, Dan Jørgensen, Greenlandic premier Kim Kielsen and a business delegation consisting of Greenlandic companies.

”The purpose of the trip is to increase the knowledge of Greenland and its culture and products in Japan and strengthen Japanese knowledge of opportunities in Greenland and the Arctic region,” the Royal Family said.

”Climate change and the increasing international interest for the Arctic region in Japan has also generated more interest in the Arctic and Greenland – last year Japan became an observer in the Arctic Council.”

The trip, which was arranged by the Danish Embassy in Tokyo in co-operation with the Greenlandic government, will also focus on expanding Greenland's existing exports of fish and shellfish to Japan.

Additionally, the program will touch on the role sustainable sealskin has played in Greenland's culture and history and its potential for the Japanese fashion industry. Japanese tourism on the world's largest island will also be on the agenda.

The Crown Prince Couple will be at hand to open an exhibition in Tokyo about Greenland's heritage and the Imperial House of Japan.
