Dane, Gothenburg, murder, Sweden, drugs

A 27-year-old Danish man is being held in Gothenburg this afternoon for a preliminary hearing.

The Dane and two other men, aged 18 and 20, have been charged with weapons possession.

Police suspect them of having a connection to an attack at a Gothenburg restaurant on Wednesday night. Two men were killed and eight others wounded in the incident. No formal charges have been pressed in relation to the shooting incident at this time.

A life of crime
The 27-year-old Dane has been in trouble with the Swedish authorities before. In 2011, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in Sweden for drug smuggling, and he has also been previously charged with a violation of the country’s knife laws.

According to the Swedish newspaper Expressen, he lives in Gothenburg, and Vårväderstorget,  the street where the restaurant attacked on Wednesday is located, is one of his regular haunts. Many of the drugs he was convicted of smuggling, it transpired in that case, were bound for Vårväderstorget.
