Quarter of a billion kroner assigned to transport infrastructure

More cycling super highways, train stops and bicycle parking on the way

After reaching a consensus with Socialistisk Folkeparti, Enhedslisten and Dansk Folkeparti on a transport agreement, the government has assigned 253 million kroner to infrastructure improvements, including so-called super highways for bicycles, extra train stops and bike-parking facilities, Berlingske reports.

Concrete projects
Magnus Heunicke, the transport minister, emphasised that the funds are intended to benefit the whole country. “It is a quarter of a billion kroner, which is aimed at concrete projects,” he said.

“It’s about more cycling super highways, more secure bicycle parking facilities and a pool that will go towards improving public transport, particularly outside the big cities, where there is real need for it, following many rounds of cuts.”

The new cycling super highways are planned for commuter routes in Copenhagen, as well as in Esbjerg and Aalborg.

The road directorate Vejdirektoratet and the traffic agency Trafikstyrelsen are responsible for allocating the funds to projects based on proposals from municipalities, regional authorities and traffic companies.
