The guys from the Swoop Challenge got the warmest weather in June, that’s for sure. And they were smart enough to bring the day forward by 24 hours, so Copenhageners could enjoy the Swoop Night Lights on Thursday and the finals by Peblinge Lake on Friday with the sun shining at its best.
Hundreds left work early, put on their best shorts and sandals and gathered by the Lakes with beers and nibbles, sitting down in every spot available, working on their tan and, if they could, getting their feet wet. It was then left to the 16 fearless competitors to do the hard work: air acrobatics on their way down from a helicopter on a microshute as they aimed precisely for a white landing base.
Some had the wind on their side and managed perfect landings. Others just missed their shot (like Gage Galle who ended completely upside down). At the end of the evening two of the athletes almost crashed, landing within just seconds of one another (centre right).
But in the end there could only be one winner: Nicholas Batsch from the USA
