Danes recover from Germany loss to reach last four

Denmark has reached an Under-21 European Championship semi-final for the first time since 1992 after beating Serbia 2-0 in their final Group A match.

The win also means that the Danes will take part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio as they are among the best four teams in Europe.

The Danes were looking to redeem themselves after being thrashed by Germany on Saturday, and Rasmus Falk sent them on their way after 21 minutes. Viktor Fischer then got Denmark’s second early in the second half.

The win, coupled with Germany’s draw with the Czech Republic, means that Denmark wins the group with six points just ahead of Germany with five and the Czechs with four.

“We were under pressure at times, but we must remember that the Serbs have good players. That cleverness, team spirit and winning mentality we have built up probably won it for us,” the team’s coach Jess Thorup told Bold.dk.

Denmark will be watching tonight’s games with interest as all of the Group B teams have a chance to progress.

Portugal, who lead the group with four points, take on Sweden, while second-placed England face Italy.
