Record number of higher education applications

Education minister stresses the importance of educating the ‘right’ graduates

There has been a record number of applications for the country’s higher education programs. Applicants had until midday yesterday to submit their applications, and by the time the clock struck 12, a colossal 92,477 submissions had been made.

Esben Lunde Larsen, the education and research minister, is pleased that so many have applied.

“Education gives freedom and more opportunities for the individual,” he said.

“And both Danish companies and the public sector require a qualified workforce, so I am happy that so many young people have applied for higher education.”

Larsen stresses however that the headline figure of total applications doesn’t tell the whole story and that further analysis is being carried out.

“It’s important that the young people have applied in the subject areas where employers need more hands,” he stressed.

“This applies not least to educations geared towards the public sector.”
