SAS investing billions into long-range routes

The Scandinavian airline has expanded its fleet with four additional long-haul aircraft

SAS has announced it will spend billions of kroner on the establishment of new overseas routes. The Scandinavian airline plans to expand its fleet with the introduction of four long-haul aircraft that will fly to new destinations and expand existing routes.

“We can see there is a need. The demand for overseas flights is growing and growing, and our relatively new route to San Francisco has been an excellent start,” Lars Sandahl Sørensen, the CEO of SAS, told Finans.

Increase in international traffic
SAS’s figures indicate that intercontinental traffic from Scandinavia has increased by 10 percent this year.

“We offer a different product from our competitors in the form of direct routes and a large network of daily departures, and this is what the frequent travellers want,” said Sørensen.

Sørensen adds that “the time is right” for SAS to upgrade, with major upgrades on cabin and business class services already underway.

SAS has not yet published the new routes or information on the new aircraft. However, it is suspected the new routes will be to Los Angeles, Orlando and Boston in the United States, as well as Seoul in South Korea and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
