Construction one of Denmark’s most dangerous jobs

13 workers injured each day despite special efforts to curb accidents

Every day of the year, there are an average of 13 accidents in construction, making the industry one of Denmark’s most dangerous occupations.

According to figures from WEA, the number of accidents has remained relatively stable over the past few years, with an average of approximately 4,500 accidents a year.

However, experts attached to the construction unions are beginning to raise their concern.

“It is far too many,” Gunde Odgaard, the CEO of BAT-kartellet, told DR.

“We have not been smart enough with our safety measures within construction sites, and it is a real problem.”

A breeding ground for errors
Mette Møller Nielsen from the Danish Chamber of Construction asserts that it is very difficult to decrease the number of accidents in the construction industry.

“Every time we start a new construction job, make a new road or tear a house down, we are basically in the process of making a brand new company with new rules and guidelines,” she told DR.

“And unfortunately, this is just a breeding ground for mistakes.”
